2012 Game Summaries

WEEK ONE: at home vs Berthoud

It has been a long wait for the home crowd to see the Mustangs get a win at Legion Field.  In fact it has been 12 games in a row.  The boys were ready to play and fired up to open up the 2012 season at home.  Berthoud is a good program with great coaches.  The Mustangs used a balance attack to keep the opponent from stacking the box.  I was glad to see them having fun and enjoying the moment.  Focus now moves to the county matchup.  A very good Brush team awaits the Mustangs.  We have to travel to their place on Friday.  We need everyone that can be there and making some noise for the boys.  Brush is a well coached football program and they do their jobs very well.  It will take everyone to do their jobs to best of their ability.  Hope to see everyone there!

WEEK TWO: at Brush

The Mustangs played hard against the County Rival and came up short.  It was not the lack of effort but the lack of controlling the turnover battle.  Costly turnovers gave a Brush offense a short field.  We saw some adversity and overcame a lot of it which is a good sign of things to come.  Played well in the first half and going in to halftime with a lead but were not able to keep the defense off the field.  We will come back and get better and work on the little things and let the big things take care of themselves.  A huge challenge is set for this week when the Mustangs travel to Thompson Valley.  The Mustangs are the Homecoming game for the Eagles.  We need everyone that can make the trip Friday night.  They are a big and fast team that is playing with a lot of confidence.

WEEK THREE: in Loveland vs Thompson Valley

We went and played a tough Thompson Valley team and did not play Mustang football in the first half.  Down 21-0 at halftime the boys could have quit and the score could have very easily been doubled.  Instead the boys responded and came out and played a very different half.  Running out of time left us short.  We have noticed that the last two games we have played a good half and a bad half.  It is now our job to put them together.  We have a very good opponent coming in to Legion on Friday night with the Skyline Falcons.  They have a lot of weapons and will be ready to play...but so will we.  Hope to have everyone out there to support the boys.

WEEK FOUR: Home vs Skyline

It was nice for the Mustangs to come back home and play at Legion.  It was awesome to see the 1992 State Championship teams both football and volleyball there.  The boys played well against a good Skyline team.  The boys continue to work on the little things.  It is going to be a good challenge when we travel down to Denver North and play on a Saturday afternoon.  A couple things this team has not had a chance to do before.  We hope that everyone that can make the trip to All City Stadium for the game at 1 pm.  A very good Denver North team that have some explosive players will be waiting for us.  They will be ready and so will we.

WEEK FIVE in Denver vs Denver North

The Mustangs traveled down Saturday afternoon and got a big win for the program over the Denver North Vikings.  It was a physical football game and the boys played well.  We are now gearing up for our Homecoming game with the Englewood Pirates.  This is a team that has a very good running back and are good size.  It will take a total team effort to get a win at Legion Field.  Englewood is ready for us and we better be ready for them.  Hope to see everyone at Legion for Friday nights game.  Englewood has a good team but so do we!

WEEK SIX Homecoming vs Englewood (first league game)

t was a good homecoming night for the Fort Morgan Mustangs.  The weather was cold and wet but the boys came out ready to play.  The closest we have come to a complete game this season.  It was a team win and ended a 30 game streak of having a shut out.  We now switch our focus to our second league game this Saturday when we face Skyview.  They are a very scrappy and aggressive team.  We will have to be ready to play.  We would love to see everyone that can make the trip Saturday at 12 to watch us.  They are ready for us so we better be as well.

WEEK SEVEN in Thornton vs Skyview

It was a great weekend for Fort Morgan Football.  Every Fort Morgan Football program won from our FMYL.  Congrats to our 7th and 8th grade football teams winning the championships as well!  The varsity went down to a cold and rainy Skyview on Saturday.  The boys came out and played well with alot of things that we must get better at.  We had too many penalties and our special teams need to get better.  It was good to get a win and now we can focus on the Elizabeth Cardinals.  They are a very good football team that is very well coached.  We will have to play a complete football game and focus on the little things and do them well.  They are ready for us to be their homecoming game and we better be ready for a battle.  Love to see the support we are getting on the road and hope to see it continue this Friday night.

WEEK EIGHT vs Elizabeth

A tough game to on the road at Elizabeth.  Coming up short on a game that meant so much is hard on everyone.  The challenge was to put it behind us and not feel sorry for ourselves and go back to work.  A HUGE THANK YOU to Joel Dreessen for being on the sidelines and buying everyone dinner after the game.  That shows that once a Mustang always a Mustang.  This Friday is gonna be a challenge with the weather and with a hungry Weld Central team that is playing with a lot of confidence.  We must show up and play for 4 quarters and do our jobs and trust that person next to us will do the same.  They are ready for a big win but so are we.  Hope to see everyone out tonight for a cold Friday night game under the lights!

WEEK NINE vs Weld Central

It was another cold night at Legion.  The boys played hard and got their second shutout in a league matchup.  Both teams played hard and the Mustangs got the win 21-0.  The playoffs are still wide open but a win must be accomplished in order to have a chance.  The last regular season game is this Friday at home against a very dangerous Vist Peak team.  This is senior night and we hope to see everyone out there to help send these seniors off with a big win.  Thanks for all the support.  Vista Peak is ready to finish the season off with a win but so are we!

WEEK TEN vs Vista Peak

A final time for the seniors to play under the lights of Legion Field and they did not disappoint.  The team played with fire and played for each other for the entire game and leaving the legion field undefeated for the 2012 season.  Very proud of all the seniors for being able to leave with a big win!

Year End Summary

2012 Football season flew by.  There was a lot to be proud of.  The senior leadership was awesome.  We want to thank everyone that made the season happen.  Thanks for the pregame meals and all the support that was showed all season long.  We hate for the season to end and we wish the seniors the best of luck next season.  I wish all the winter and spring athletes the best of luck.  Before you know it we will be back at work getting the little things!  Thanks again for the support!
